In a recent study provided by the California Association of Realtors, it was found that of all Millennials only 22% knew they could purchase a home today. Not that big of a surprise right? I mean how many of your friends own homes already? The scary part of this study was the unknowing Millennial's. Of those surveyed, 45% stated that they didn't know if they could purchase a home. So the question I pose, is why wouldn't you know?
Most often it is found that people are scared of change or the unknown. But think about it, whats the worst that could happen? You get denied. However, I bet your lender will be more than willing to help you achieve the "American Dream" by setting a definitive game plan. This game plan may be as simple as correcting your credit, how to save or how much your income needs to be. You are not asking too much for that help. It is a lenders job to provide you with customer service, let them help you and they will be happy to do so. Best case scenario, you qualify and you didn't realize that you could. You might be pleasantly surprised with the programs that are available for you to capitalize on the market. Don't be satisfied with just living in Santa Barbara renting, set your roots and invest in the town you love!
Home ownership is achievable and there are people here to help you get there. With the right lender and the right agent, you can purchase your first home. Don't be someone that "thinks" they want to own a home but doesn't know if they can. Become educated, set goals to achieve your dream of homeownership and do so by taking the first steps.
